Craig Brewer, writer-director of the magnificent Hustle and Flow as well as the less-seen but nearly equally intriguing Black Snake Moan is apparently set to do an update on Smokey and the Bandit according to Hollywoodreporter.com.
His upcoming film Mother Trucker is described as an action comedy about a man who steals an 18 wheeler and drives across the South to see his dying mother.
Frankly, the synopsis sounds like a Brewer film, it’s just the genre that doesn’t.
Even if this really is an action comedy, expect it to be an unusually sensitive one.
And to have a sweet soundtrack.
Brewer is one of the better young writer-directors out there and Black Snack Moan underperformed, here’s hoping he can score a hit.
